Gallery: Window Boxes
Artists involved: Kate Bernauer (Brisbane) Closer is a series of landscapes set within the transitional spaces that exist in urban environments such as development sites and empty blocks of land. A play of out of place objects sets odd dramas into action. Have these objects come to life or are they the remains of some unusual event? Dreamlike in quality, these images create metaphors about the way in which we perceive the world and about our everyday human aspirations. Kate Bernauer was born in northern NSW, although spent much her childhood and adolescence in Adelaide. She has lived in Brisbane since 2004 and is currently completing her Honours in a Bachelor of Photography at Griffith University. She has been awarded the Queensland Centre for Photography Award, been Highly Commended in the Artworkers Award and also been a finalist in the Josephine Ulrick Award. She also worked on the exciting While Others Sleep exhibition and book. She has exhibited with (amongst others) Farrell & Parkin, Ray Cook, Christine Webster, Monica Kvaale, Charlotte Svedrup and Cathy Macke. home |
